I had semi impromptu meeting with Portland's Smart City Open Data Director and he is so cool! They are taking a privacy forward approach to the smart city approach, very inspiring.
Introducing Indie Web Server (video)
I just recorded a short video demonstrating just how simple and seamless Indie Web Server really is.
Running a secure development web server is one command. Running a secure production web server is… umm… still one command.

I’m very excited about this – it’s one of the first pieces of the bridge we’re building towards the peer web (it’s on the current web leg of the bridge – that’s where are now.)
Democratising the ability to develop/deploy personal sites is an important step. This is the first of a number of more specialised modules I’m considering releasing as I build the scaffolding of #Hypha. Hypha also will/does use Indie Web Server for its untrusted node (https://source.ind.ie/hypha/hypha).
The ever-increasing #informationOverload means it is becoming crucial for everyone to be able to save as much time as possible, even on the #desiSeconds scale. #Multiidentity is one of several means of helping everyone to both handle own and filter external contents with maximum #efficiency. This is about #ITstrategy, and the #platforms of the #fediverse and related tools should cater for the needs of various groups of people, not only one use case. For example, we should be able to use this platform in #collaboration efforts regarding improvements to #democracy such as #transparency. Suitable #flexibility in #voting and #moderation are good examples of what such platforms should provide. And in particular #discussion #processes towards collective #decisionMaking is something the world simply is lacking and has never seen efficient and trustworthy #solutions for yet (ever...).

Trying to find an article I think I saw on the #fediverse a day or two ago about the "myth" of federation and the failure of #Mastodon to decentralize sufficiently (finding that two instances carrying most of the overall activity of the entire network). But now I can't find it. Anyone bookmark it? @Gargron @federationbot
Made a special version of my 'Mastodon 101' video for r/socialmedia on Reddit, after the mods objected to the plugs for Masthead. If you're a Redditor, I'd love an upvote to help reach social media professionals: https://www.reddit.com/r/socialmedia/comments/aytlq3/mastodon_101_if_you_work_in_or_study_social_media/ #mastodon #fediverse
"Could now be the time for a cooperatively run, open source alternative to Twitter, perhaps run along the lines of Wikipedia? Owned by everyone, responding to community concerns: tools to defend against trolling, manipulation by Russia or to help stem the tide of fake news." https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/what-would-twitter-be-with-wikipedia-politics/ #fediverse #mastodon
As part of examplifying both limitations, needs and potential in collaboratively facing #nformationOverload, this account is part of a #multiidentity effort that separates topics and focus areas across "identities". This currently means "accounts", which is one of the limitations that we want to examplify. References: KetilXV.me / MOMOC.zone / Zeitgeist.center".
